Playing OCS Games on Tabletop Simulator
First, you will need to get an account on Steam (www.store.steampowered.com). [Steam is a video
game digital distribution service by Valve. Steam offers digital rights management (DRM), server hosting,
video streaming, and social networking services. It also provides the user with installation and automatic
updating of games, and community features such as friends lists and groups, cloud storage, and in-game
voice and chat functionality. If you play PC-based games, it is the best way to install, update and
maintain your games.]
Once Steam is installed, you will need to create an account and sign up. All this part is free.
Next, open Steam and go to the “Store” tab. Type “Tabletop Simulator” into the search bar, and you will
see the “app” in the dropdown box. Click on the app.
This brings up a page about the Tabletop Simulator app, which is game support tool you install on your
PC (it hosts games similar to the way Vassal does). Click the link to buy the game (it was US$19.99
when I did it but it often goes on sale for half price):
You then purchase the game, and follow the prompts to install it.
Once installed, click on your “Library” tab, and a list of the games you own via Steam pops up. Click on
Tabletop Simulator to open it.
When you select Tabletop Simulator in your Library, click the three buttons on the right hand side, and
then the “Workshop” dropdown.
Type “OCS" in the Search Bar, and click the magnifying glass icon, and then click on one of the OCS
Reluctant Enemies box that shows up. Right now, there's OCS Reluctant Enemies, OCS Burma, and OCS:
Case Blue & Guderian's Blitzkrieg II but more will likely be created over time.
Here you will see the OCS Reluctant Enemies page. Click “Subscribe” in the green box below (I already
subscribed, so that is what the box indicates):
(You can also search for MMP, and as of 6 Sep 2021 there are draft modules for Burma and Tunisia II.
Searching for “Case Blue” gets a draft module for a GBII/CB combination game which is huge. There are
many other games if you search terms like “GMT” “SPI” etc.)
OK. Launch Tabletop Simulator, you'll see 2 big buttons. "Join" and "Create". Click "Create"
You will see 3 new buttons. Click "Singleplayer"
Now you'll see the games list. There's 4 big buttons on the left:
"Classic" for traditional games
"DLC" for Tabletop Sim games you purchase from Steam. The ones we're interested in are free
so no need to go here
"Workshop" this is where you'll see the games you subscribed to.
"Save & Load" this is where your game saves will be
Click "Workshop" and you'll see the list of games you subscribed to, and open "OCS Reluctant Enemies"
Now you'll see the board and you can play.
This video will cover most of what you need to know to move the camera and interact and so on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGPdpGn0DCM
The main interactions you'll be doing for an OCS game are:
Left click drag to make a selection box to select a stack of tokens.
Dragging the selected tokens to move them
Press 'F' to flip the selected token
To better see a token stack, right click a stack and choose "Explode stack" at the top of the
menu. Click "Repack" to repack the stack back into a stacked token stack.
In the OCS Reluctant Enemies game, you'll see blue bags. Those bags are infinite bags which
contain the OCS 4.3 common counters.
A few notes for OCS Players:
Masking would work the same as it does in real life. On your turn don't look through ‘their’ stacks but
you can see the top counter, etc.
Multiplayer is really easy in Tabletop Sim. It's real time. Everyone sees the same board state
Feel free to leave a comment on the game page on the Steam Workshop if you have suggestions or spot
issues
