Northeastern Illinois University assumes no financial responsibility for international students. All international students are required to show proof that funds are
guaranteed for the first year of study to obtain an I-20 and during the visa appointment. Please ensure that adequate funding will continue to be available from the
same, or an equally reliable source, for subsequent years. The following figures indicate the minimum amount needed for one academic year (fall & spring terms,
minimum full-time enrollment) plus twelve months of living expenses. Estimated costs may be higher or lower than shown. An international student on an F-1 or J-1
visa cannot sponsor another international student. You can have more than one sponsor to make up the total amount required below. This form must be filled out by
you and each of your sponsors.

accounts, current money market accounts, or current certificates of deposit, while you are pursuing a full-time course of study applicable to your degree program. The letter must bear
the original signature, in ink, of a bank officer/official. For more information about acceptable financial documentations see page 2.

● Must be dated within 6 months of the I-20 process and visa interview.
● Name of account holder must be on the document.
● Official letter must be in English, or be certified by an English Translator.
● ONLY the following types of accounts are accepted: Savings, Checking,
Certificate of Deposit, or Money Market Accounts.
● Must show currency and its USD equivalency.
● Must be issued by bank with an official letter head and or bank seal.
● if no seal must be Notarized.
Sponsors from Family/Friends in
the U.S. who are Permanent
Residents or U.S. Citizens:
● Copy of an Affidavit of Support Form I-134 is required. Get at
https://www.uscis.gov/i-134.
● Have your sponsor who is a U.S citizen or US Permanent Resident write a typed
letter indicating what they will be sponsoring you for (i.e., tuition and/or living
expenses). They should also state their relationship to you (e.g., sibling, friend,
etc.), and the period of time they will support you.
● Must be dated within the last 6 months
● This letter MUST signed and Notarized.
Living Expense Sponsors
● If you have family who are not U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents but who will
sponsor your housing & living expenses, have them provide:
o A typed letter stating that will fully sponsor you for your Living Expense
Signed.
o This letter must be dated within the last 6 months
o The Letter MUST be signed and Notarized.

AND TAX RETURNS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
FAXES AND PHOTO COPIES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
You must provide originals upon arrival during student orientation & check in.
ANY COMBINATION OF Fund is acceptable, as long as you can demonstrate the coverage for 12 months.
This financial statement and attached supporting document(s) cannot be dated more than six months prior to the date of
receipt by the Office of International Programs (OIP) at Northeastern Illinois University. Scanned original copies can be sent
once the student is accepted to the university. Send ONLY Legible Scanned PDF Copies. Students must submit original
financial statement and bank letter upon arrival to the U.S. to OIP. They will become property of the University and will not be
returned. Please make copies of all application documents, including your financial documents, for yourself. Copies will not be
provided to you by the OIP.
ANY COMBINATION OF Fund is acceptable, as long as you can demonstrate the coverage for 12 months.
