Success at Intuit
Intuit and Coursera create
a robust program for
bookkeeping job readiness
OVERVIEW
Industry leader Intuit is the top employer of bookkeepers in the US. In 2019, the company
realized great success with the launch of their QuickBooks Live service, which connects small
businesses with QuickBooks-certied virtual bookkeepers. This high demand meant Intuit
needed to ll an inux of internal job openings, but the global skills shortage made it
a challenge.
With a commitment to powering prosperity around the world, Intuit sought to expand
the pipeline of qualied professionals for themselves and the greater nance industry. By
partnering with Coursera, Intuit could create a robust online education program that would
directly impact job outcomes for global learners.
Intuit’s new program needed to teach learners job-ready skills for entry-level bookkeeping
roles and to promote Intuit’s certication exam—which would qualify them to apply for a role
with Intuit QuickBooks. And to support the oen-uprooted military community, Intuit sought
to publicize both the training program and QuickBooks’ virtual bookkeeper roles.
SOLUTION
Intuit collaborated with Coursera and launched the Bookkeeping Professional Certicate
in June 2021. This empowering program lets learners earn a respected skills credential that
prepares them for a variety of entry-level roles: bookkeeper, accounting clerk, accounts
payable clerk, and accounts payable specialist, among others. With no degree or prior
experience required, anyone can enroll in the program and build skills for a new career.
Within the program courses, Intuit provided the necessary training to gain mastery of
the latest QuickBooks tools and become an expert through certication. The content is
preparatory material for the Intuit Academy Bookkeeping exam on the Intuit website. Intuit
only requires one year of QBO experience and either 3 years of paid bookkeeping experience
or the Intuit Academy Bookkeeping badge.
Intuit also leveraged Coursera’s ACT Now Education partnership to provide the certication
exam free of charge to active-duty military, veterans, and military spouses. The partnership
helped Intuit generate awareness of the program organically on social media through its
military community.
And, by making the new training available to employees, Intuit was able to create consistency
across their bookkeeping jobs and could oer internal promotion opportunities.

IMPACT
Intuit’s partnership with Coursera was an immediate success. In just the rst year, 30,000
learners enrolled in the Intuit Professional Certicate program on Coursera. Learners who
then passed the Intuit Academy Bookkeeping certication exam were able to nd exible
employment opportunities that met their needs–some were even hired by Intuit directly.
The partnership proved to be an eective talent development and recruiting strategy that
continues to grow. In fact, Intuit has already issued 1,881 Bookkeeping badges to-date for
FY23 (Aug ‘22 – July ‘23).

In addition, Intuit’s partnership with ACT Now allowed them to engage with a tight-knit
military community in a way that catered to their unique needs. These families want job
opportunities that provide stability through relocations and that can be performed from
anywhere. Through Intuit, they could develop job-ready skills and become certied for a
new career with room to grow.
