2.1 Figures:Bestpractices
2.1.1 Insertfiguresaftertheendofaparagraph
Althoughitispossibletoflowtextaroundanimage,theGraduateSchoolrequiresa
simplerapproachthatislesspronetocausingerrorsandspacing/text‐flowanomalies.
Figuresshouldalwaysappearaftertheendoftheparagraphinwhichtheyarefirst
referenced.Ifthereferencingparagraphendshighon
thepage,andthereisn’tenough
roomtofitthefigureandcaptiontogether onthatsamepage, you mayeitherleavethe
restofthepageblank,orcontinuethetextflowuntilyoureachanaturalparagraphend
onthatpage.Thefigureshouldthenbeinsertedat
thetopofthenextpage.
Donotinterruptaparagraph,orworse,asentence,toinsertafigure.
